Incubator II
Discarded fabrics, wood, pva, papier mache.
This sculpture was specifically designed and made for the Shoreham Sculpture Trail and aims to bring attention to environmental issues arising from textile manufacture in developing countries.
The clear waters of the  Darenth River which runs through the village of Shoreham provide sharp contrast to the polluted waters of the textile industries in many developing countries, which create harmful environmental effects. The textile industry is the second largest polluter in the world next to the oil industry. Amongst other serious issues, toxic chemicals from textile manufacture released into rivers are known to disrupt hormones and have been linked to miscarriages, birth defects and cancer.  In China, it is estimated that a third of the country's rivers are too polluted for human contact.

Permanent Sculpture at Cleeve Park School
Made solely from branches cut from local Plane  trees during routine council maintenance.  The branches are woven into each other, holding the work together as the only means of support.
The school backs onto 240 acres of natural parkland and woodland.  This piece was created to reflect this natural setting and is intended to naturally decompose over time.

Each of the three components of this sculpture has a circular hole in the centre.  As people approach  they  reach a point at which the holes all line up enabling a view through all three.

Untitled
(reused steel chair frames and discarded fabrics)

In keeping with ethical principles I reuse discarded materials to create my work.  A desire to nurture manifests itself by focusing on environmental issues, the protection of our planet  and its resources and damage caused by human intervention.  This transitional piece of work is driven by the views of some eco feminists who suggest that the beginning of the decline of our eco-system and ethical principles coincided with the industrial and mechanical advances of the Enlightenment, and patriarchal domination over women and nature.

Untitled Body of Work
(recylced clothing, tree logs,  and discarded objects)

A series of work using soft sculpture to address issues surrounding materialistic, consumer society and traditional values. Discarded objects are used with the intention of raising awareness of ethical and environmental concerns arising from material production.  These concerns include human rights,  poverty and pollution.

The hanging sculpture 'Gaia' alludes to pre-Hellenic goddess myths in which Gaia was revered as the ancient earth mother, and  traditional feminine principles of nurturing, healing and bio-diversity.
